This rare crane
numbers about 5,000 in the wild and nests in northeastern
Mongolia and northeastern China.
It feeds mainly on seeds, tubers and Vertebrates. Two eggs
are incubated on an elevated nest of aquatic vegetation in
a wetland area.
Their wintering grounds in the demilitarized zone between
the two Koreas makes them very vulnerable.
Like all other cranes, human interference and habitat destruction
is causing their decrease in numbers.
